Seventh Generation Review & Giveaway - closed

It's been a hectic few days, so hectic that I've hardly had time to sit down and write! Luckily I've got a little time right now while Elijah sleeps (hopefully)!

We only use non-toxic, eco-friendly cleaning products in our house. Indoor air pollution is a growing problem and most commercial cleaning products out there have harmful chemicals that you and your family are probably inhaling. This PDF file is a comprehensive list (4 full pages!) of common chemicals found in cleaning products and how thy are harmful. I recently saw commercials that were saying to clean baby toys in bleach! Seriously? Bleach is extremely toxic and full of chemicals. A great non-toxic alternative to bleach is vinegar.

Here are some scary facts to think about. 92% of all exposure to poisons occur in the home and involve everyday household items such as cleaning products, cosmetics, bath & body items, and medications. Exposure to the toxic chemicals in cleaning products has been linked to cancer, birth defects, heart disease, infertility, allergies, fatigue, and migraines. There are three ways for toxic chemicals to enter your body: breathing, swallowing, and skin absorption. Think about all the surfaces in your home that you clean. You touch those surfaces daily, probably thousands of times a day even!

So you can see why I don't use any cleaning products that have those nasty chemicals. I already have to deal with one cancer, I really don't want to deal with another kind, or any other disease for that matter.

Seventh Generation recently sent me their Healthy Home Starter Set to try out, an assortment of wonderful products! Each product is scented with essential oils, so you get a nice scent that is all natural. That makes cleaning fun!

When my package got here I was so excited. In fact, I scrubbed the entire bathroom and the kitchen floor at 2am. I can't remember the last time (if there was ever a time like that) I was that excited to clean!

The Healthy Home Kit consists of the following products:

Kitchen Cleaner - "Our Wild Orange & Cedar Spice cleaner tackles even greasy cooking surfaces and smelly garbage cans with ease."  The Wild Orange & Cedar Spice is by far my favorite scent of all of these products (though they all do smell great)! I love it so much that I scrubbed the entire kitchen floor, stove, and even the diaper pail with this product! It cleans really well and cuts through grease just like it says it does!

All-Purpose Cleaner - "Cleans and degreases hard surfaces, indoors and out. Non toxic, it creates no harsh fumes. Safe for your family and the planet, great for wet mopping; not recommended on wood floors." This is also great! I did try this out on the kitchen floor as well as the kitchen cleaner.

Glass & Surface Cleaner - "Effectively cleans glass, mirrors, chrome and other hard surfaces – without streaks, toxins, fumes or harsh chemicals."  Mirrors and glass are one of those things that I rarely clean, but now I can't clean them enough! The grapefruit scent is really lovely.

Shower Cleaner - "Green Mandarin & Leaf daily-use shower spray prevents soap-scum buildup, mold and mildew without harsh fumes or toxic agents."

Toilet Bowl Cleaner - "Compare our Emerald Cypress & Fir Toilet Bowl Cleaner to your cleaner. You'll love the change! Cleans and deodorizes without harsh fumes, harmful chemicals, aerosols or dyes."

Tub & Tile Cleaner - "You'll love our Emerald Cypress & Fir Tub & Tile Cleaner. No harsh fumes. Refreshing spa scent makes bathroom cleaning a pleasure!"  They are right when they say that bathroom cleaning will be a pleasure. The bathroom is probably my least favorite room of the house to clean. These 3 bathroom products are awesome, I think I've cleaned the tub about 6 times in the past 2 weeks, that's a record!

Brown Paper Towels - "These unbleached, 100%-recycled towels clean up spills fast! No dyes or fragrances; 120 two-ply sheets per roll.I'm trying to move away from disposable paper towels, but since we still use them occasionally then I feel better about it by using recycled paper towels without any dyes.

Seventh Generation discloses all of their ingredients, so you can be sure you know exactly what you are using. Instead of bleach they use hydrogen peroxide which is a great alternative.
