Please, help me with heartburn and shoulder pain!

Seriously, I need a break! Not a break from being a mom, a break from ailments. I've been having awful heartburn at night, the kind of heartburn that makes me go stand over the toilet because I feel like I might throw up. Of course I don't, I just spit a lot, but it's so bad that it's hard to get to sleep and I am already dealing with insomnia! I've tried pills, I even drank some baking soda a couple weeks ago (gross). Nothing is working, HELP!
Aside from that my left arm is in SO MUCH PAIN. Mostly my shoulder, all since surgery in September. It used to only hurt a lot at night but now it's starting to hurt all the time. Baby + hurty arm = no good. I am starting physical therapy on April 2nd but DAMN, I wish I didn't have to wait for it to be better. Where's a magic wand when you need one?
Any tips for horrible throat burning heartburn and shoulder pain would be greatly appreciated!

Oh dear....that does NOT sound good. Have you tried placing hot/cold packs on your shoulder? Some times the heat can ease achy-ness and the cold can help with inflammation.

Willow Bark tea for pain?

And as for indigestion----don't drink ANYTHING carbonated or acidic and try to eat only bland foods. Like oatmeal without butter.

During pregnancy I had such bad indigestion that I considered getting a prescription to help. Drinking 500 gallons of ice water, and eating nothing spicy, salty, fatty or acidic helped.

Hope you get better---cause dude I am ALL out of magic wands. If I wasn't I'd totally send you one<3

I used to work at a health food store and people swore by papaya for heartburn. My mom just reminded me of it the other day. I wish I would have remembered while I was pregnant because I had horrible heartburn! Good luck!

I know ginger helps settle a stomach, I wonder if it would also help for heartburn. I love Stop Pain spray or Salonpas pads for pain, I used to cover myself in them after running half marathons.

I have not tried this myself, but I'm told that a Tbs of apple cider vinegar (it has to be raw, the kind with a 'mother' in it) will knock out heartburn. Just take it straight off the spoon (or mix it in a glass of water if that's too strong for you).
Ginger and peppermint are both good for upset tummies, but that's more nausea than indigestion... I have also heard papaya recommended but don't have personal experience.

I suffer from heartburn always and know that I need prevacid when pregnant. I also sleep on a wedge or husband pillow when pregnant, don't eat for 2 hours before bed (only room temp water or saltines) never drink cold or very hot drinks and stay away from acidic foods and drinks. Try popping tums the calcium is good for a pregnant body anyways.
As far as shoulder pain try thermacare shoulder hot packs and if you sleep on your side put a pillow between your knees to help straighten your spine. You can buy a lower back support band that can help and there are exercises to help shoulder pain. Try angels- stand with your back against the wall, bend your elbows with your arms to the sides and slowly stretch them them to reach together on top of your head.

I'm not pregnant right now, the heartburn started when I was pregnant though! I had my baby last July!

I'm sorry to hear about your shoulder pain. If your PT doesn't help, I've just written a book about shoulder and elbow pain that may have the answers for you. It's available on Amazon. I hope your PT does well for you though.

Oh Jessica! That sounds terrible! Have you tried going to an acupuncturist? Generally speaking acupuncturist are very good at detecting the source of problems in any or many of the body's systems. Muscle pain can be dealt with immediately in most cases and organs (such as the stomach) are connected to points via the nervous system. The needles actually communicate to your body. I highly recommend it!

I know this might seem odd, but where abouts is your shoulder pain, and in which shoulder?

I had GERD and took Nexium for it. I eventually had an operation to "fix" it and it resulted in me having shoulder pain afterwards. I don't know if the two could be linked.

The reason I get shoulder pain is because my diaphragm gets irritated. However, the shoulder and diaphragm share the same nerve to the brain, meaning that your brain can't tell where the pain sensation is being felt, therefore meaning that it's your shoulder that seems to hurt, when it's really that your brain's just not able to differentiate.

But do let me know if you wish to talk about heartburn. Nexium is the best drug out there for it right now. It's enzyme-based and so specific to stomach-acid secreting enzymes in your stomach. It's all kinds of complex, but I can go into detail if you need! :)
